Why Los Angeles Homeowners Choose PGT Construction

We provide PGT repair in Los Angeles, and we’ve been doing it long enough to know exactly what these windows and doors go through in this city. PGT builds impact-rated products designed for hurricane zones, but in Los Angeles, the real enemy is different: salt air eating aluminum frames within a few miles of the coast, UV exposure breaking down seals, and seismic movement working rollers and hardware loose over time. We repair and install PGT WinGuard, 5500 Series, ClassicVue, and Eze-Breeze product lines across the city, from Venice bungalows to Sherman Oaks ranch homes, and we know which failure modes show up where. One call to (877) 610-1318 gets you a straight answer and a free estimate.

A quick note on independence: Barrett & Sons Construction is not authorized by or affiliated with PGT Industries. We’re an independent PGT service provider. That means we’re free to tell you when a repair makes more sense than a replacement, and we’re free to source the parts that actually fit your window, not whatever the factory wants to push this quarter. Tom Barrett has been building and remodeling in Los Angeles for over two decades, and he’ll tell you what your windows need, not what a sales rep told him to sell.

Why Trust Barrett & Sons Construction for Your PGT Construction?

Our crews have installed and repaired PGT WinGuard and PGT 5500 Series windows and doors across Los Angeles for over a decade, handling coastal salt air, seismic movement, and strict Title 24 energy requirements. We carry direct field knowledge of PGT’s aluminum clad-wood and vinyl product lines without being a factory-authorized dealer, and that matters more than people realize. Factory authorization means following a script. Field experience means knowing, for example, that a WinGuard window in Venice is going to corrode differently than the same window in PGT in Pasadena, and that a 5500 Series sliding door in a house with Santa Ana dust exposure will need roller service years before an identical door in a milder neighborhood.

Tom Barrett grew up in the San Fernando Valley, not far from the old stretch of Van Nuys Boulevard where his dad used to take him to watch crews pour foundations on weekends. He learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, starting with framing and finishing with enough hours in the field to know that the job never lies. For the better part of two decades he’s been building and remodeling homes across Los Angeles, and people around here know him for showing up when he says he will and not cutting corners when nobody’s looking. That’s who answers when you call. Not a dispatcher in another state. Tom publishes his name, his address, and his license number. Look it up before you sign anything.

We back every PGT repair and installation with the same written 90-Day Done Right Promise we put on every contract. If it’s not done right, Tom comes back and makes it right, one call. That’s not a slogan. It’s on paper.

Common PGT Construction Problems We Fix in Los Angeles

These are the issues we see most often on PGT products in Los Angeles, and they’re tied to very specific local conditions:

  • WinGuard laminated glass delamination and seal failure. PGT WinGuard uses laminated impact glass, and prolonged UV exposure plus salt air in coastal neighborhoods like Venice and San Pedro breaks down the interlayer and edge seals over time. You’ll see hazing or clouding between the glass panes, or moisture trapped inside the unit. The glass isn’t failing because of a manufacturing defect. It’s failing because Los Angeles coastal air is brutal on laminated assemblies. We replace the glazing unit with PGT OEM glass when available, and the frame usually stays intact.
  • PGT 5500 Series sliding door roller wear and stiff operation. The 5500 Series is popular in 1960s and 1970s homes across Los Angeles, especially mid-century and ranch properties. The problem is that LA’s fine dust, combined with hard water mineral buildup, grinds down the tandem rollers. Doors get stiff, noisy, and eventually the panel drags. Our tech opened a 5500 Series sliding door in a Hancock Park mid-century where the rollers had ground flat and the track was packed with fine dust and pet hair. We pulled the panel, replaced both OEM tandem rollers, cleaned and lubricated the track, and reinstalled with new wool pile weatherstripping. The door now glides with two fingers, and the owner avoided a $3,000 replacement.
  • WinGuard aluminum frame pitting and corrosion near the coast. Within a few miles of the ocean, PGT WinGuard aluminum frames will pit and corrode if the factory finish isn’t maintained. Salt spray gets into the finish, oxidation starts, and before long the frame looks like it has acne. Catch it early and we can spot-treat and refinish. Let it go for years and the frame loses structural integrity at the corners. That’s when replacement becomes the honest recommendation.
  • Eze-Breeze vinyl glazing channel cracking from temperature swings. Eze-Breeze is a lighter, more affordable PGT line, and Los Angeles owners love it for porches and sunrooms. But the vinyl glazing channels crack after years of direct sun and the temperature swings between day and night, especially inland where summer days hit triple digits and nights drop twenty degrees. Cracked channels let in water and dust. We replace the glazing channels and re-seat the panels, which extends the life of the unit significantly.
  • Weatherstripping failure on PGT doors from heavy use and sun exposure. The wool pile weatherstripping on PGT sliding and hinged doors deteriorates from UV exposure and the constant friction of daily use. When it’s flattened or missing, you lose the seal, and your energy bill shows it. Replacing weatherstripping is one of the cheapest PGT services we offer, and it makes a measurable difference in comfort.

PGT Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We use PGT OEM glazing, rollers, and weatherstripping when availability and lead time allow. PGT’s parts distribution is generally reliable for current lines like WinGuard and 5500 Series, and OEM parts keep everything within manufacturer spec. But for discontinued series, sourcing direct OEM parts can mean waiting weeks or simply not finding them. In those cases, we source equivalent AAMA-rated aftermarket parts that match the original specification. We don’t put cheap universal parts into PGT frames. The part either matches the spec or we don’t use it.

Our repair-versus-replace decision is straightforward. We recommend repair when the frame and glass are structurally intact. Roller replacement, weatherstripping, hardware adjustment, and track cleaning fix a huge portion of PGT performance complaints. But if the laminated impact glass is compromised, meaning delaminated or cracked, or if the frame is corroded beyond spot repair, we’ll quote a full replacement. We won’t patch something that’s going to fail again in two years and leave you with a worse problem. Call (877) 610-1318 for an honest assessment, free of charge.

Our PGT Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis and written estimate. We inspect the PGT unit in place, identify the specific failure, and give you a written line-item estimate before work begins. No verbal guess. No vague “we’ll see when we open it up.” Scope in writing, allowances in writing, change orders in writing.
  2. 2
Parts sourcing and confirmation. We confirm whether PGT OEM parts are available for your series and lead time, or source AAMA-rated equivalents for discontinued lines. You’ll know exactly which parts are going into your window or door and why.
  3. 3
Repair or installation. Our crew, which is Tom’s sons and their teams, not dispatched strangers, performs the work. Every crew member is background-checked and uniformed. We protect the work area and clean up when we’re done.
  4. 4
Testing and adjustment. We test every repaired or installed PGT unit for smooth operation, proper sealing, and correct latching. Impact windows and doors have specific alignment requirements, and a lazy install means a window that won’t lock or a door that drags. We don’t leave until it operates correctly.
  5. 5
Written warranty and follow-up. Every PGT job carries the written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If something isn’t right, one call brings Tom back. No fine print, no phone tree.

PGT Products We Service & Install in Los Angeles

We service and install the PGT product lines most common in Los Angeles homes:

  • PGT WinGuard Aluminum – impact-rated aluminum windows and doors, common in coastal and hillside Los Angeles homes where fire and wind resistance matter. We handle glass replacement, seal repair, frame refinishing, and full window replacement.
  • PGT 5500 Series – vinyl and aluminum windows and sliding doors, very common in 1960s and 1970s Los Angeles housing stock. We do roller replacement, track service, weatherstripping, and frame repair.
  • PGT ClassicVue – a mid-range line popular in San Fernando Valley homes. We service hardware, seals, and glass units.
  • PGT Eze-Breeze – vinyl glazing systems for porches, patios, and sunrooms. We replace cracked glazing channels, re-seat panels, and repair track hardware.

We stock common PGT rollers, weatherstripping, and hardware locally, which means faster turnaround on the most frequent repairs. For glazing units and large frame sections, we order direct and coordinate installation timing with you.

We Also Service These Brands

PGT is one brand we know deeply, but it’s not the only one we service in PGT service in Glendale and across the region. We also work with KraftMaid and Cambria in kitchens, Silestone on countertops, and Kohler in bathrooms. If your Los Angeles home has a mix of brands, we can handle the full scope without you having to coordinate multiple contractors.
