Franchise FAQ
Barrett & Sons Construction has been owner-operated since 1998, and we’re opening the books on how our franchise model works. Tom Barrett and his sons built this company one job at a time. Below are straight answers to the questions we get asked most.
Common Questions
Do I need construction experience to open a Barrett & Sons franchise?
No, but it helps. We look for people who can run a business and treat a homeowner with respect. Tom and his sons teach you the trades side, the estimating, and how to keep a crew honest. If you’ve never swung a hammer, we’d rather know that on day one than find out on day ninety.
What’s the total investment range to open a location?
The total investment depends on your territory, your real estate situation, and how much equipment you already own. You’ll receive a written breakdown of every cost before you sign anything, because an allowance that isn’t on paper is a surprise waiting for a date. Call (877) 610-1318 and we’ll walk you through realistic numbers for your area.
Is financing available?
We don’t lend money ourselves, but we’ve seen franchisees succeed with SBA loans, local bank financing, and personal capital. We’ll tell you what banks have worked with our model before. We won’t tell you financing is easy when it isn’t.
What territory or exclusivity do I get?
We carve out a specific county or group of zip codes and put it in writing. You’re not competing with another Barrett & Sons truck down the road from your own jobsite. The line on the map is the line, and we honor it.
How long is franchise training?
Training runs several weeks, split between our home market and your territory. Tom is on site with you personally during the launch phase. You’ll learn estimating, permitting, customer communication, and the written change order system. The permit inspector works for you, not for us. That’s why we like him, and that’s why you’ll meet him early.
What are the ongoing fees and royalties?
There’s a royalty structure and a marketing contribution, both disclosed in writing before you commit a dollar. We don’t hide a fee in the fine print. If it’s a cost, it’s on paper. If it’s on paper, there are no surprises at the end of the month.
How long does it take to open after I sign?
Most franchisees are running jobs within three to six months, depending on permitting, equipment, and how fast you move through training. We won’t rush you into a truck before you’re ready to put the Barrett name on the door. Your reputation is our reputation, and we’d rather you open a month late than open sloppy.
What support do I get after opening?
You get Tom’s cell phone number. You get ongoing training, help with supplier relationships, and a team that has been doing this since 1998. When one of our franchisees has a problem on a Saturday morning, they don’t get a voicemail box. They get a live person.
Who’s the ideal Barrett & Sons franchisee?
Someone who wants to be known in their town. Local roots, on time, community first, accountable, loyal. That’s our L.O.C.A.L. values code. If those five words sound like your business philosophy, we should talk. If you’re looking to run a call center and dispatch strangers, we’re not your outfit.
What’s the next step if I’m interested?
Call (877) 610-1318. Tell us where you want to operate and what you bring to the table. We’ll send you the written materials, answer your questions straight, and introduce you to Tom. No pressure, no glossy brochure with numbers that don’t hold up.
Still Have Questions?
Call (877) 610-1318 and a live person will answer. Or submit the form on this page and we’ll call you back within one business day. We’d rather talk to you directly than hide behind a website.
