ViewLux Construction in Reno, CA | Barrett & Sons Construction
We provide independent ViewLux service across Reno, from glass replacement to full window and door rebuilds. The one thing that makes our work here different is that we’ve spent 29 years watching exactly what this high-desert climate does to vinyl frames, seals, and hardware. If your ViewLux windows are fogging, cranking hard, or leaking air, call (877) 610-1318 and we’ll tell you what’s actually wrong and what it’ll cost to fix. No phone-then-different-bill games.
Why Reno Residents Choose Us for ViewLux Service
Tom Barrett started Barrett & Sons in 1998, and he learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, starting with framing and finishing with enough field hours to know the job never lies. His sons run crews now. We’re not a franchise dispatching strangers to your door, and we don’t answer the phone with a call center in another state. When you call about your ViewLux windows, you get someone who has pulled these exact units apart in Midtown ranch homes and North Valleys stucco boxes alike.
We’re independent. That matters because we can tell you the truth about whether to repair or replace without a manufacturer’s quota hanging over the conversation. We source OEM ViewLux glazing and hardware when it’s available. For older discontinued lines, we spec equivalent thermally efficient aftermarket glass and hardware that meets or beats the original. Either way, you get a written line-item quote before we touch anything, and every price change comes as a written change order. Tom’s name, address, and license number are published and verifiable. Look us up before you sign.
Common ViewLux Construction Problems We Solve in Reno
- Fogged glass from seal failure. Reno gets roughly 300 sunny days a year, and the UV load plus wide daily temperature swings wrecks insulated glass seals faster than lower-elevation markets. We replace the failed IGU and re-glaze properly, rather than leaving you staring through a fogged pane.
- Vinyl frame warping and corner-weld cracking. Freeze-thaw cycling at 4,500 feet puts stress on south- and west-facing frames, especially up in 89506 and 89508. We’ve pulled apart enough units to know when a frame can be saved and when the vinyl has embrittled past the point of repair.
- Stripped casement operators. Fine Sierra silt works into crank mechanisms and chews through the gears. It’s a Reno problem as much as a ViewLux problem, and the fix often isn’t a new window, just a new operator assembly and a good cleaning.
- Weep-hole clogging and sill rot. Stucco overspray and blown dust plug the weep holes, then spring snowmelt has nowhere to drain except into the frame and sill. We clear the channels and replace rotted sills before they become structural problems.
- Air leaks around the rough opening. Older Ranch homes in Old Southwest and around the university were never insulated well, and original window flashing from the 1950s and 60s has long since given up. We re-flash with high-temperature tape and reseal with UV-stable sealant so the window actually does its job.
ViewLux Service in Reno: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s the part that doesn’t show up on any generic ViewLux page. If you live in the North Valleys, Lemmon Valley, or the eastern foothills, your replacement windows now fall under Nevada’s Wildland-Urban Interface fire code. That means Class A-rated, ignition-resistant glazing, ember-resistant frames, and multi-pane tempered units. Two miles south in central Reno, none of that applies. The same ViewLux double-hung that passes inspection on California Avenue won’t pass off Spanish Springs Road. So when we quote a WUI-zone job, we don’t just swap glass. We spec the right glazing package from the start, and we know the inspectors who’ll sign off on it. The permit inspector works for you, not for me, so we’d rather hand them a job they’ll pass the first time.
ViewLux Models & Products We Service in Reno
We work on ViewLux Vinyl Replacement Windows, Sliding Patio Doors, Casement and Awning Windows, and Bay and Bow Windows. For active product lines, we order OEM glazing units and hardware so the repair matches what was originally installed. For discontinued ViewLux lines, we’ve built a network of aftermarket suppliers whose thermally efficient glass and stainless hardware meet or exceed the original specs. We keep common sealants, flashing tapes, and hardware kits on the trucks, which means less waiting when a job is mid-construction and the weather turns. ViewLux sales and service runs through this shop, not a national portal.

FAQs - ViewLux Construction in Reno
Can you replace just the glass in my fogged ViewLux window, or do I need the whole frame rebuilt?
If the vinyl frame is still square and the corner welds are intact, we can replace just the failed insulated glass unit. If the frame has warped or embrittled from years of Reno UV and freeze-thaw cycles, rebuilding the glass into a tired frame is throwing money away. We’ll show you which situation you’re in before you spend a dime. Call (877) 610-1318 and we’ll take a look.
Do ViewLux windows meet the new Wildland-Urban Interface code for my North Valleys home?
Not by default. Standard ViewLux units don’t carry WUI-rated glazing. In zones like Lemmon Valley and the eastern foothills, we have to spec tempered, multi-pane ViewLux units with ember-resistant frames to pass inspection. We won’t sell you a job that fails, and we pull the permit so the inspector signs off properly.
Why do my ViewLux casement window cranks strip out so fast in Reno?
Fine Sierra dust gets into the operator gears and acts like sandpaper every time you crank the window. Add in dry air and hard use, and the nylon gears wear out in a few seasons. The fix is usually a new operator assembly and a weatherproofing pass, not a whole new window.
Can you quote a ViewLux sliding door replacement without seeing the existing opening?
We won’t. We’ve seen too many rough openings that look standard from the outside but have rotted sills or out-of-square framing once you pull the trim. A phone quote without eyes on the opening is how you end up with a surprise invoice. We come out, measure, and give you a written line-item scope before anything is ordered. No trip charge inside the county.
My ViewLux windows are only 10 years old but already foggy. Is that a defect or just Reno weather?
Could be either, but ten years is about when we start seeing seal failures on ViewLux units here. Reno’s 300-plus sunny days, high UV, and 20 to 30 hard-freeze nights every winter put double stress on the sealant. It’s not necessarily a warranty issue, but it’s definitely a Reno issue. We can tell you once we inspect the unit. Call (877) 610-1318 for an exact diagnosis and price.
