Techo-Bloc Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you’re looking at a Techo-Bloc product that’s failed or is failing inside your Los Angeles kitchen, we stock the replacement parts and install them for a typical installed price range of $16,520 to $53,100 depending on scope, slab size, and what’s behind the wall once we open it up. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a cabinet face that won’t align, a paver or stone veneer that’s cracked at the corner, or a countertop run that’s shifted after an earthquake or years of settling. We’ve been carrying and installing Techo-Bloc since Tom Barrett founded Barrett & Sons Construction in 1998, and we’ll match your part to your exact Techo-Bloc series before a single change order is written.

For anyone who wants the short version: yes, we stock Techo-Bloc-compatible kitchen remodeling components, yes, we’ll give you a written line-item quote, and no, you won’t get a surprise invoice at the end. Call (877) 610-1318 and we’ll schedule a free estimate.

Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc runs several product lines that end up in Los Angeles kitchens, not all of which share the same part numbers. The two we see most often are Blu 60 mm and Mista pavers used as flooring or feature walls, plus the occasional Graphix slab used as a kitchen island top or backsplash accent. Each line has its own dimensional tolerance, joint spacing, and color blend. A Blu paver from 2016 will not match a Blu paver from 2024 out of the box, because Techo-Bloc adjusts pigment blends over time. That’s the compatibility gotcha nobody mentions until you’re staring at a patch that looks close but not quite right.

To identify your part, look on the underside or back edge of the unit for a molded letter code. Techo-Bloc stamps most product batches with a two or three letter series code plus a date wheel. If that’s worn off, measure the unit to the nearest millimeter. Blu 60 mm is actually 60 mm thick; Mista runs 50 mm. That 10 mm difference tells us which series you have, which tells us which replacement stock to pull. For OEM parts, expect a two to three week lead time from Techo-Bloc’s western distribution center. For quality aftermarket equivalents matched to the same blend, we usually have them on the truck within a few days. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Techo-Bloc, which means we don’t have to route your job through a dealer network to get parts moving.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks at inside corners of the island or peninsula. Los Angeles soil expands and contracts with seasonal moisture, and older foundations settle unevenly. A crack that follows the mortar line usually means the substrate shifted; a crack that runs through the unit itself means the unit was installed without enough flex allowance.
  • Grout or joint sand washing out around Techo-Bloc flooring. In kitchens near the coast, salt air and frequent mopping accelerate joint erosion. When the joints get wider than a quarter inch, the units begin to move underfoot and chip at the edges.
  • A countertop or feature wall that’s visibly out of level. If a level shows more than an eighth inch of fall across four feet, the substrate or the original install wasn’t flat. That causes stress concentration, which is why one unit eventually cracks.
  • Color fading that isn’t uniform. Techo-Bloc products are concrete-based, and Los Angeles sun through a window can bleach exposed surfaces unevenly. If one section looks brighter than the rest, that section was likely replaced at a different time with a different pigment lot.
  • Loose or rocking units underfoot. When a paver rocks, the bedding layer has failed. In Los Angeles kitchens, that’s often from a slab leak, a prior dishwasher overflow, or years of high foot traffic breaking down the setting bed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Techo-Bloc kitchen remodeling in Los Angeles, the installed range runs $16,520 to $53,100. The low end covers a partial kitchen refresh: replacing a run of Techo-Bloc flooring, rebuilding one island face, and swapping a section of backsplash. The high end covers a full kitchen remodel where Techo-Bloc materials run through the flooring, island, and feature wall, plus new cabinetry, countertops, and the plumbing and electrical that come with it.

What drives the spread: square footage of Techo-Bloc material, whether we’re pulling the old substrate and pouring new, how much cabinetry and countertop work is attached to the job, and permit requirements. Los Angeles building code requires permits for kitchen remodels that touch plumbing or electrical, and we pull them. Your quote includes parts, labor, substrate prep, haul-away, permits, and a written scope. We back the install with our 90-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, Tom Barrett comes back and makes it right, one call.

Here’s how the line items typically shape up:

  • Techo-Bloc flooring (Blu or Mista): $4,130 to $12,980 installed for an average Los Angeles kitchen
  • Techo-Bloc island face or feature wall: $3,540 to $11,800 installed
  • Full kitchen remodel with Techo-Bloc throughout: $16,520 to $53,100
  • Cabinet installation: $4,720 to $15,340
  • Countertop installation: $2,360 to $7,670
  • Backsplash installation: $945 to $2,950

We don’t play the allowance game. The allowance that isn’t on paper is a surprise waiting for a date. You’ll see every number in writing before we start, and any change comes as a written change order, never a verbal side deal.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check yourself: whether units are loose or rocking, whether joints have widened past a quarter inch, and whether you can see the molded letter code on a removed unit. What you shouldn’t attempt is pulling up Techo-Bloc kitchen flooring or an island face to “fix a crack.” Concrete units under load can shatter when pried at the wrong angle, and the edges are sharp enough to need stitches. The bigger risk is what’s underneath: a failed setting bed means water damage, and that means mold, subfloor rot, and sometimes electrical lines that need to be relocated. That’s not a weekend project. That’s a call to (877) 610-1318, and we’ll have Tom or one of his sons out to look at it.
