Each series uses different balance systems and weatherstripping profiles, so a sash from a Reflections window won’t seat properly in an Impressions frame.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see most often: the label matters more than the model name. Look in the header of the window frame, the top inside edge where the sash meets the frame. You’ll find an etched or printed label with a serial number that encodes the window’s glass package and hardware spec. Older Simonton-made windows from before 2015 sometimes have this label on the spacer bar between the panes, not the frame. If you can’t find it, remove the sash and measure the visible glass width and height to the nearest 1/8 inch, and take a photo of the balance shoe. That combination usually gets us to the right match.

OEM versus aftermarket for Simonton comes down to two things: age of the window, and what failed. If your sashes are under warranty and the failure is a seal or hardware defect, the OEM path keeps the warranty intact. • Sticking or jerky sash travel when opening or closing. The balance system is worn. Simonton coil balances lose tension faster in bathrooms because humidity causes the coil housing to corrode slightly over time. If the window slams shut instead of gliding, the balances are done.
• Visible black mold or mildew inside the track or on the weatherstripping. This isn’t just cosmetic. Mold in the track means water is sitting where it shouldn’t, and that weatherstripping is no longer shedding moisture properly. Replacement is cheap; ignoring it isn’t.
• Draft or cold air leaking around the sash edges. Weatherstripping has compressed or torn. In a bathroom window near a tub or shower, draft usually means the frame has shifted slightly or the weatherstrip has hardened from steam exposure.
