If you’re looking at a part, flip the sash open and look for the PGT sticker on the head or jamb. It’ll list the series, the glass package, and usually a date code. • The lock works with the key but not the thumbturn, or vice versa. The multi-point lock inside a PGT door is a linkage system, and a single bent connecting rod or a broken cassette locks the whole thing out of sequence.
• Air or daylight sneaks in around the sash edge. In Los Angeles, the pile weatherstrip on PGT windows typically lasts 8 to 12 years before UV bakes it brittle. When it’s compressed flat or falling out, it’s no longer sealing anything.
• The window sits cockeyed in the frame or won’t close square. That’s usually a snapped corner key or a stripped cam pivot, common on old PGT single-hung windows that were forced open against a warped sash.
