Kohler Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Most Los Angeles homeowners don’t think about their Kohler fence until the day it won’t latch, a post leans hard after a rain, or a gate drags across the concrete. We install and replace Kohler-compatible fence systems throughout Los Angeles, and a typical full installation runs $4,130 to $10,620 depending on linear footage, post depth, and whether we’re pulling old concrete footings. You’ll usually discover the failure the same way: a gate that suddenly binds, a post that’s soft at the base, or hardware that’s rusted through after a few wet winters. We stock the common Kohler-series fence parts on the truck and can match most models same week.

Barrett & Sons Construction is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Kohler, but we’ve been installing and repairing their fence lines across Los Angeles long enough to know which parts fail first and which ones are worth replacing with OEM versus a quality aftermarket equivalent.

Which Kohler Models This Applies To

Kohler’s fence line isn’t as widely known as their plumbing fixtures, but the aluminum and vinyl series share common hardware specs across the Apex, Estate, and Premier lines. The gotcha: gate hinges and latch assemblies are not universal. A Premier-series gate hinge has a different post mounting pattern than the Apex, and mixing them leaves you with a gate that sags within six months. Before you order anything, check the inside of the gate frame for a stamped model number, or measure the post-to-post opening and the hinge mounting plate width. We match parts by those measurements, not by guesswork.

For most repair work, OEM Kohler hardware is worth the extra cost on gates because the hinge geometry is exact. For infill panels and post caps, quality aftermarket parts hold up fine in Los Angeles sun and save you real money. We’ll tell you which is which before we order a single part.

Signs Your Kohler Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or binds at the latch. This is almost always hinge wear or a post that’s shifted out of plumb. In Los Angeles, clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with winter rains, and posts set shallow start moving within a few seasons.
  • Post wobbles when you push it. The concrete footing has cracked or the post base has corroded below grade, which we see most often in older installations where posts weren’t set below the frost line or wrapped in gravel for drainage.
  • Rust staining at hinge bolts and latch hardware. Coastal moisture and sprinkler overspray eat cheap hardware fast, and once the zinc plating fails, the steel underneath swells and seizes the moving parts.
  • Panel sections rattle in wind or feel loose at the seams. The U-channel connectors have stretched or the panel is no longer seated because the post spacing was off from the start.
  • Visible cracks at the base of vinyl posts. UV exposure over a decade makes vinyl brittle, and hairline cracks at post bases are the first sign the post will snap at the next hard wind event or a kid climbing over it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Fence installation in Los Angeles runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a typical Kohler-style project. The range moves on three things: total linear feet, whether we’re demolishing and hauling an old fence, and post footing work. A straightforward panel-and-post replace on flat ground sits at the lower end. A job with old concrete footings to jackhammer out, roots to cut, and a gate or two to rehang pushes toward the top.

Every quote includes parts, labor, haul-away of old materials, and concrete for new post footings. You’ll get the price in writing before we start, and if anything changes mid-job, you’ll get a written change order before it happens. That’s how we’ve run Barrett & Sons since 1998, and it’s why our crews, led by Tom Barrett’s own sons, don’t leave surprise invoices on your kitchen counter. Workmanship is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground. You can inspect your own fence: push each post, check hinge bolts with a wrench, look for rust blooms at hardware points, and note which panels rattle. That tells us what we’re dealing with before we even arrive. What you shouldn’t do is pull a post out of concrete and try to reset it yourself. A 6-foot gate post carries a lot of load, and a poorly set post is the reason most Los Angeles fence repairs fail within a year. Digging around buried sprinkler lines and gas service laterals without a utility locate is how a $200 post replacement becomes a $2,000 repair.

If you’ve got a Kohler fence acting up, call (877) 610-1318 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a simple hardware swap or a full section replacement, and we’ll give you a straight number before we set foot on the property.
