IKO Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have an IKO roof in Los Angeles and a section of it is failing, we stock and install replacement materials that match your existing IKO shingle line. Installed repair work on IKO roofing in Los Angeles typically runs $470 to $2,125 depending on the damaged area, and we can usually get eyes on your roof within a day or two of your call. Most homeowners discover a problem the same way: a shingle in the yard after a Santa Ana wind event, a water stain on the ceiling after a hard rain, or granules collecting in the gutter faster than they used to.

Barrett & Sons Construction is an independent roofing contractor, not affiliated with IKO. We work with their product lines because we know them well, and because Los Angeles weather treats IKO shingles a specific way that we have learned to plan around.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO makes several shingle lines that show up on Los Angeles roofs, and the fix depends on which one you have. The three we see most often are Cambridge, Dynasty, and Nordic. Cambridge is the architectural shingle most common on 2000s-era homes in the San Fernando Valley and out toward the foothills. Dynasty is their heavier architectural line, and Nordic is what you see on newer builds and higher-wind areas near the canyons.

Here is the compatibility detail most people miss: IKO Cambridge and Dynasty shingles are not interchangeable mid-roof. If a contractor patches a Cambridge section with Dynasty shingles, the profile and shadow line will not match, and you will see the patch from the street for the next twenty years. That is the kind of shortcut you notice at 7 a.m. on a Sunday when the sun hits it just right. We match the exact line, color, and lot when we can, and we tell you before we start if a color has been discontinued. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, we default to genuine IKO material for any full replacement so the warranty stays clean. For a small repair on an older roof, we will sometimes use a quality aftermarket match if the OEM line is gone, but we always say so first, in writing.

Signs Your IKO Roofing Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutter every time you clean it. IKO shingles in Los Angeles lose granules faster than in cooler climates because the UV exposure and heat cycling break down the asphalt binder. Some granule loss is normal in year one. A steady accumulation after year eight or ten means the shingle is oxidizing and nearing the end of its useful life.
  • Cupping or curling at the shingle corners. This is the clearest sign of heat fatigue. We see it most on south-facing and west-facing roof planes in the Valley, where summer surface temperatures hit 150°F or more. Once shingles curl, water finds the nail line.
  • A shingle or tab in the yard after a wind event. Santa Ana winds in the fall will test every roof in Los Angeles. If shingles are coming off, the adhesive strip has likely failed, or the nails were overdriven at the original install. Both are fixable, but neither is a one-shingle problem once it starts.
  • Water staining on the ceiling after a moderate rain. Los Angeles does not get continuous rain like other parts of the country, so leaks here tend to be slow and sneaky. By the time you see a stain, water has been working its way through the decking for a while. Do not wait on this one.
  • Brittle or split shingles when you look closely at the edges. On a hot day, a brittle shingle will snap rather than flex. That is the asphalt losing its oils. We see it on IKO roofs around the 15-to-20-year mark in Los Angeles, sooner on roofs with poor attic ventilation.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here is what IKO roof work costs in Los Angeles, based on the jobs we price most often:

  • Small repair (a few shingles, one leak point): $470 to $825
  • Moderate repair (a bundle or two, flashing work): $825 to $1,650
  • Larger repair (multiple areas, decking patched): $1,650 to $2,125
  • Full IKO re-roof on an average Los Angeles home: $9,440 to $23,600

The range comes down to the slope of your roof, how many layers need to come off, and whether the decking underneath is still sound. Every quote we hand you is a written line-item scope, not a number scrawled on a card. If anything changes once we open the roof up, you get a written change order before we proceed. That is not negotiable in our company. The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies to roof repairs the same as any other job we do: if it is not right, Tom Barrett comes back and makes it right, one call.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do the inspection part yourself. Grab binoculars, stand in the yard, and look for curling, missing tabs, and granule-covered gutter sections. But walking an IKO roof in Los Angeles is a different story. The granules on architectural shingles turn slick after rain, and a steep pitch near the ridge is how people end up in the emergency room. We do not recommend DIY repairs on any roof, and we say that as people who would rather talk you out of a fall than bill you for a repair.

If what you are seeing looks like more than a couple of shingles, call us at (877) 610-1318. We will come out, look, and give you a straight answer about what needs to happen and what it will cost.
