Cover Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Cover kitchen remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, depending on cabinet count, countertop material, and whether you’re keeping the existing layout or moving plumbing and gas lines. That’s the honest range, and it’s what we quote on before a single nail moves. Most homeowners find us after a Cover kitchen has started showing its age: warped cabinet doors that won’t close, laminate peeling at the seams, soft-close hinges that gave up being soft three years ago, or a countertop that’s delaminating where the sink meets the surface. You know the part failed because the kitchen stopped working the way it did when Cover first installed it. The question isn’t whether to fix it. It’s who fixes it without handing you a different bill at the door.

We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor. We don’t work for Cover, and we don’t carry their corporate playbook. What we do carry is twenty-nine years of kitchens torn out and rebuilt right, with our own name on the truck. Tom Barrett and his sons run the crews, and if something isn’t done right, you call one number and Tom comes back. That’s not a slogan. It’s written on every contract.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover kitchens in Los Angeles are almost always modular systems: prefabricated cabinet boxes with face-frame fronts, laminate or solid-surface countertops, and factory-installed hardware. That’s different from custom cabinetry. The boxes are standardized sizes, usually in three-inch increments starting at nine inches wide. That’s also the gotcha: because Cover cabinet boxes use metric-to-imperial conversions internally, a 15-inch door may not drop onto a 15-inch box from another supplier without shimming the hinges unevenly. If you’re replacing a single failed drawer front or a delaminated side panel, you need to match the box, not just the door.

We stock OEM-style replacement hardware for common Cover kitchen lines: European cup hinges in 35mm boring, soft-close add-ons rated for 80,000 cycles, and drawer slides in the 18-inch and 21-inch lengths these kitchens use most. For cabinets themselves, we don’t try to match a single box. We rebuild the run with KraftMaid or equivalent solid-plywood boxes, which is what we’d put in our own homes. You’ll pay more than a particleboard patch job, and the cabinet will still be square in fifteen years.

Countertops are simpler. Cover kitchens ship with either laminate or a thin solid-surface cap. Both fail the same way in Los Angeles: UV from hard western exposure breaks down the adhesive layer, and the dry air causes substrate movement. If the original counter is laminate, Cambria or Silestone quartz goes in and stays. If it’s solid-surface, we can fabricate a direct replacement or upgrade the run.

Signs Your Cover Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Cabinet doors sag or won’t close flush. The hinge plates on Cover boxes are often pressed into particleboard, and particleboard doesn’t hold a screw forever. Once the plate wiggles, the door sags, then the hinge binds, then the door gets slammed once too often and the corner splits. You’re not crazy. It’s the substrate failing under the hardware.
  • Countertop seams open or darken at the sink. Water intrusion at a butt seam is the classic failure in Los Angeles kitchens, especially with laminate counters that run hot and cold with our temperature swings. Once moisture hits the substrate, it swells and the seam widens. The fix isn’t caulk. The fix is cutting the sweep out and replacing it properly.
  • Drawer slides stick or drop on one side. Ball-bearing slides with a broken cage will still ride, but they’ll grind and catch. If you pull the drawer and see loose ball bearings, the slide is done. Cover’s factory slides are often light-duty 75-pound class. We replace them with full-extension 100-pound class, and the drawer actually opens far enough to reach the back again.
  • Laminate edges peel or bubble. This is glue-line failure, and it’s common on Cover cabinetry that’s sat in a hot kitchen for a decade. The thermal cycling in a Los Angeles summer, where a kitchen can swing thirty degrees between morning and afternoon, eventually fatigues the adhesive. The door hasn’t gone bad. The bond has.
  • Soft-close mechanisms stop catching. Those plastic dampers inside the hinge arm are the first thing to go. They crack from repeated compression, and one day the door just thuds. It’s a cheap fix, but if you’re seeing it on multiple doors at once, the whole hinge set is at end of life and you’re better off replacing them as a run.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Cover kitchen remodel in Los Angeles lands between $16,520 and $53,100. A smaller kitchen, or a remodel that keeps the cabinets and replaces counters, backsplash, and hardware, starts around $10,620 and can stay under $23,600. Cabinet-only work, where you’re swapping boxes but keeping the floor plan, ranges $4,720 to $15,340. Countertop replacement, including fabrication and cutouts, is $2,360 to $7,670. Backsplash is $945 to $2,950 and a new island runs $3,540 to $11,800.

Everything we quote is parts and labor together. No “plus installation” surprises at the end. Every scope change, every allowance adjustment, arrives as a written change order before work proceeds. The price on the contract is the price unless you change the scope, and if you do, you’ll see it on paper first. Our 90-Day Done Right Promise covers every job, and it’s in writing: if it’s not right, Tom comes back and makes it right. One call.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check: whether hinges are tight, whether drawer slides have visible broken bearings, whether a seam has opened or a door is delaminating. That’s diagnosis, and it’s free to do. What I’d tell you as a neighbor: if the issue is a soft-close damper or a loose screw, go ahead and fix it. If it’s a delaminating cabinet box, a failed countertop seam at the sink, or a drawer that’s dropped on one side, the repair involves tools most Los Angeles garages don’t have and mistakes that eat the savings twice over. Countertop fabrication is not a weekend project. Cabinet boxes carry your dishes and your grandmother’s platter. If you’re not sure, call (877) 610-1318. We’ll tell you what you’re looking at without charging for the conversation.

We’ll do it right the first time, or we’ll come back and make it right.
