Cambria Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Cambria fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a complete perimeter job, including materials, labor, and concrete footings. That’s the number we quote most often for standard residential lots in neighborhoods like Sherman Oaks, Studio City, and Woodland Hills. Most owners don’t realize they have a fence problem until a gate sags, a post leans after rain, or a section of slats starts popping loose where the fasteners backed out.

Here’s the thing about Los Angeles soil: it moves. We get wet winters followed by long dry stretches, and clay-heavy ground in places like the Valley expands and contracts enough to heave a fence post right out of plumb. Cambria’s composite and vinyl fence lines hold up better than wood against sun and moisture, but the posts and hardware still take the full brunt of that soil movement. When the base fails, the whole run looks tired even if the panels themselves are still fine.

Barrett & Sons Construction is an independent installer, not affiliated with Cambria. We carry genuine Cambria fence panels and hardware, plus quality aftermarket components that match the original specs when a full OEM replacement doesn’t make financial sense.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria’s fence and railing product lines fall into two broad categories: the composite privacy fence series (typically 6-foot panels with routed tongue-and-groove slats) and the lower-profile decorative railing used around decks and patios. The privacy fence is what we install most often across Los Angeles residential properties, and it’s built around a post-and-panel system where the aluminum or galvanized steel posts do the real structural work.

Identifying your exact part is straightforward if you know where to look. Every Cambria fence panel has a manufacturer stamp on the inside face, usually near the bottom rail or along a hidden edge. The stamp includes the series code and manufacturing date. The post caps and base trims also carry molded part numbers. We use those numbers to match replacements, because Cambria has updated its panel profile twice since 2015, and a panel milled in 2021 will not seat properly against one from 2016, even if both are marketed as the same series.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: the post dimensions changed on the current generation. Older runs used 4-inch square aluminum posts with a specific wall thickness; the newer system uses a 4-inch profile but with a deeper channel for rail brackets. If you’re adding a gate or extending an existing run, we verify the post spec before ordering anything, because mixing generations on the same line creates visible seams and weak points at the brackets.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question, our honest position is this: for visible panels and rails, we order Cambria OEM parts so the color match is exact and the warranty stays intact. For hardware that nobody sees (post inserts, gate hinges, tension bands), we’re comfortable using heavy-duty aftermarket equivalents that often outlast the factory pieces, especially in coastal Los Angeles where salt air chews through the original zinc plating in three to five years.

Signs Your Cambria Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Leaning or twisting posts. This is the number one failure we see in Los Angeles, and it almost always traces back to undersized footings or post bases set without proper drainage. The panel itself is fine; the foundation under the post is not.
  • Gate sag and latch misalignment. The hinge screws are pulling out of the post or the gate frame has racked. We see this constantly on the west side near the coast, where the combination of marine air and daily thermal cycling loosens hardware faster than people expect.
  • Slats popping loose at the bottom rail. Composite fence slats expand and contract with heat. Los Angeles summers push surface temperatures well past 120 degrees on a south-facing run, and factory fasteners that were torqued for a cooler climate back out over repeat cycles.
  • Chalky or faded panel surface with visible fiber texture. The UV stabilizer in the capstock wears down after years of direct sun. Panels still shed water, but the color has gone flat and the surface gets chalky on your hands.
  • Water pooling at the post base after rain. The post was set in a way that traps moisture, and even galvanized steel gives up eventually when it’s sitting in a puddle. In neighborhoods like Encino and Tarzana, where the water table can rise during wet winters, this shortens post life dramatically.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Los Angeles residential fence job, installed pricing lands between $4,130 and $10,620. The spread comes down to linear footage, post count, gate hardware, and whether we’re doing a clean removal of the old fence or working around existing hardscape. A smaller yard in Burbank with one gate might sit at the low end; a corner lot in the hills with steep grade and gate automation runs toward the top.

Every Barrett & Sons quote includes the full breakdown, not a lump-sum number. You’ll see the panel cost per linear foot, post cost per piece, concrete, hardware, gate hardware, and labor as separate line items. If the scope changes, you get a written change order before we touch anything. The 90-Day Done Right Promise covers the workmanship, and we pull permits where Los Angeles code requires them for fence work, which is more common than people think once you get into retaining walls or fences over 6 feet near property lines.

We also offer free estimates, and there is no trip charge inside the county. If you have a written estimate from another Los Angeles contractor, we’ll give it a free second opinion. And if this repair runs over $200, you’ll get $40 off.

DIY or Call Us?

Some fence work you can safely handle yourself. Tightening gate hinge screws, clearing dirt away from post bases, and checking rail brackets for looseness are all reasonable homeowner tasks. If you catch a loose bracket early, before the panel shifts, tightening it with basic hand tools is fine.

But here’s where it goes wrong: resetting posts in ground that shifts as much as Los Angeles soil does is not a weekend job. A post hole in clay soil needs proper depth, gravel drainage at the base, the right concrete mix, and often a deeper embedment than the original because the original was too shallow to begin with. We’ve pulled posts in Studio City that were set only 18 inches deep, flared out at the bottom, with no drainage, and the concrete had turned to soft chalk. That post was never going to stay straight.

Anything involving a sagging gate, a leaning post, or a full panel replacement is worth a call to (877) 610-1318. Tom Barrett grew up in the Valley and learned his trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, so we know what this ground does. He’d rather come look at it than have you fight it for three weekends and still call us anyway.
