The early 2000s surrounds used a 3/8-inch panel with a slip-fit trim channel. The newer lines went to a 5/8-inch panel with a snap-lock trim that doesn’t interchange. If you’ve got an older surround and try to force a new trim channel onto it, the reveal gap stares back at you like a bad haircut.

Here’s the checkable gotcha: measure the panel thickness at an exposed edge before you order anything. 3/8-inch means you need the legacy trim kit, which most big-box stores stopped stocking years ago. 5/8-inch parts are current and easier to get. For OEM versus aftermarket on Bufftech specifically, the original panels hold color better in direct sun than most aftermarket copies.
