Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

The pavers and driveway don’t attach to the Boxabl itself. They sit in front of it, around it, and under the path your car takes to the unit. What matters for compatibility is the clearance height from the ground to the bottom of the Boxabl door threshold, and the width of the door opening. The Casita’s entry door is a standard residential width, so any paver walkway that meets Los Angeles residential code works. The driveway approach depends on your lot’s slope and how far the unit sits from the street. We measure the drop from the Boxabl threshold to the street or alley, check the side-to-side pitch, and then spec the pavers and base material so water runs away from the unit, not under it. OEM Boxabl parts exist for the unit itself: panels, hinges, the frame system. For the driveway and surrounding hardscape, there is no Boxabl factory part. This is a site-built installation, and the right products are Belgard, Techo-Bloc, or a comparable premium paver that handles Southern California sun and the occasional heavy rain we get in January and February. Signs Your Boxabl Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

• Sinking or low spots that hold water after rain. This usually means the base underneath was never compacted in lifts. Water pools, and over a season or two the pavers drop. If you see standing water against the Boxabl skirt, that water is working its way under the unit, and that is a problem you want fixed before the next storm.
• Pavers shifting or rocking when you step on them. Loose pavers mean the edge restraint failed or the sand joints have washed out. In Los Angeles, we see this most often on driveways that slope toward the street, where water carries the joint sand downhill every time it rains.
• Cracks running through concrete or pavers near the Boxabl corners. The Boxabl is heavy. When the ground settles unevenly under the unit’s footprint, the surrounding hardscape takes the stress. Hairline cracks are one thing. Cracks wider than a quarter inch that keep growing are another.
• Erosion gullies forming along the edges of the driveway. If rainwater cuts channels along the sides of your paved approach, the base is washing out from underneath. You’ll see the edge pavers start to tip outward, and then the whole edge row follows.
• Sand or fine material collecting on the paver surface after it rains. That is the joint sand leaving the system. Without it, pavers rub against each other and chip. The surface looks dirty, but the real issue is that the locking layer is gone and the pavers are grinding.

What you shouldn’t do is lift and reset pavers yourself if you suspect the base failed beneath them. If the base wasn’t compacted right, resetting the top layer is like putting new shingles over rotten plywood: it looks fine for a few weeks, then the same low spot comes back.
