Barrette Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you’ve got a Barrette window or door with a failed part, we stock the replacement hardware and glass you need, and in most cases we can have it installed within a day or two of your call. Installed parts repair for Barrette windows and doors in Los Angeles typically runs $470 to $2,125 depending on the part, the sash size, and whether we’re doing a single component or a full rebuild. Most folks don’t notice anything until a crank handle starts slipping or a door roller grinds, and by then the part has usually been wearing quietly for months. That’s how it goes with windows: they fail slow, then all at once.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette manufactures several window and door lines, and the replacement part you need depends on which series you have. The most common Barrette window lines we service across Los Angeles are the single-hung and horizontal slider units found in stucco homes built from the 1990s forward, plus the hinged patio door sets that show up in a lot of San Fernando Valley ranch houses. Here’s the part most people don’t know: Barrette uses different roller styles in their single-hung windows versus their horizontal sliders, and you cannot swap them, even if the mounting holes look close. If you can pull the glass panel out and read the etched code in the corner, that tells us the exact sash profile and glass pack. If the code’s worn off, we measure the frame channel and the glass thickness on site. We keep OEM Barrette hardware for the common series on the truck, and for the oddball sizes we use quality aftermarket equivalents that match the original profile. The decision there is easy: if your part is a glide block or a corner key, a good aftermarket match is fine and usually half the price. If it’s a lock assembly or a multi-point door mechanism, we order OEM every time, because the tolerance difference on those is what separates a window that locks from one that rattles.

Signs Your Barrette Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • You’re lifting the sash to close it. This means the glide block or shoe has worn flat or cracked, and the sash is dragging on the frame track. Every forced close grinds the track a little more, so the repair bill climbs the longer you wait.
  • The window doesn’t stay up on its own. On older Barrette single-hungs, the spring in the balance assembly has either snapped or lost tension. This is a fifteen-minute fix with the right balance cartridge, and it’s one of the most common calls we get in the Valley.
  • You hear grinding when the patio door slides. The rollers are shot, and if they’ve been grinding long enough, the bottom track is scored too. New rollers without addressing a gouged track buys you maybe six quiet months before the new rollers chew up.
  • The lock doesn’t throw all the way. On Barrette sliding doors, this usually means the keep on the jamb has shifted out of alignment, or the gear teeth in the lock body are stripped. A window that locks halfway is a window that doesn’t lock at all.
  • Condensation between the panes. The IG unit, the insulated glass, has lost its seal. The fix is a new piece of glass, not a whole window, and it’s done from inside the house in most Barrette frames.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we’re quoting for Barrette parts work in Los Angeles, parts and labor included:

  • Balance assembly or glide block replacement: $470 to $825
  • Patio door roller replacement (set of two, track tune-up included): $710 to $1,180
  • Window lock or keep replacement: $470 to $825
  • Insulated glass replacement for a single sash: $710 to $1,180
  • Full single-sash rebuild (hardware, seal, glass if needed): $1,180 to $2,125

What drives the range is the size of the sash and whether we’re doing one part or a pack of three. The price we give you is the price you pay, before we open the wall or the window, and if anything changes mid-repair we hand you a written change order before a single part gets ordered. Every parts repair carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise, written on your contract: if it fails inside ninety days, we come back and make it right. One call, that’s it.

DIY or Call Us?

We’ll be straight with you: window sash work can go bad fast, and some of it you should not do yourself. A balance spring under tension, especially the coil type in some Barrette sliders, can open the palm of your hand before you know what happened. Glass handling is its own animal; a replacement IG unit for a 6-foot patio door is eighty pounds of broken-finger waiting to happen. Here’s what you can safely do: check the track for debris, look at the lock screws to see if they’re simply loose, and write down the code etched in the glass corner before you call. That code saves us a return trip and saves you a second service call. Beyond that, call us at (877) 610-1318. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a quick swap or something we need to see first.
