Ameristar Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ameristar-compatible window and door parts across Los Angeles, with most replacement hardware priced between $470 and $2,950 installed depending on the part. Our trucks carry the common failure items for Ameristar windows and doors, so in many cases we can match the part, price it honestly, and complete the swap the same visit. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a crank handle strips out, a balance shoe snaps, or a sliding door suddenly feels like it’s dragging through wet concrete.

Ameristar built windows and doors that are still in thousands of homes from Woodland Hills to Pasadena. The frames and glass hold up, but hardware ages the way all hardware does. We see the same handful of failures repeat across the city, and after working on these products for years, we know which parts are still available, which need an aftermarket equivalent, and which are past saving. Before you start guessing, grab a flashlight and look for the serial or model label, usually etched into the corner of the glass or printed on a sticker along the frame edge. That number is the fastest route to the correct part.

One thing worth knowing up front: Barrett & Sons Construction is an independent, family-owned company serving Los Angeles. We are not affiliated with Ameristar as a brand or distributor, and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is a local contractor that works on these products and carries the parts that keep them functional.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar manufactured aluminum and vinyl window lines under several series names over the years, and the hardware differs by frame material and opening style. Slider windows used one kind of roller assembly; single-hung and double-hung windows used another; casement windows with a crank used a third. If your Ameristar window has a crank, the operator mechanism is series-specific: the mounting hole pattern on a Series 2000 may not match what’s on a Series 3000, and no amount of forcing will make it work. The label tells us which one you have, so don’t scrape it off during a repaint.

For sliding glass doors, the roller assemblies on Ameristar doors are also size-specific. We’ve measured replacements where the original roller was one-eighth of an inch narrower than the aftermarket version, and that tiny difference meant the door wouldn’t seat correctly. The aftermarket industry makes quality equivalents for the most common Ameristar parts: rollers, balances, locks, keepers, weatherstripping, and handles. For obscure or discontinued parts, a machined equivalent or a full hardware swap may be the honest answer, and we’ll tell you that before we order anything.

How to identify your part: find the label as described above, measure the visible hardware, and take a photo of the broken piece from a couple of angles. When you call us, having that label number saves a round of guesswork.

Signs Your Ameristar Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • The window is hard to open or drops when raised. The balance mechanism has failed. In Los Angeles, heat and dry air age the internal spring or block-and-tackle assembly faster than you’d expect, and once it lets go the sash loses its counterweight.
  • The sliding door drags or grinds along the track. The rollers are worn flat or the bearings have seized. Coastal moisture in areas near Marina del Rey and the salt air that drifts inward can accelerate roller corrosion even on inland homes.
  • The crank handle spins without moving the window. This is a stripped operator gear, common on Ameristar casement windows after years of use. The splines on the handle wear smooth against the drive gear, and once they slip, they keep slipping.
  • The window won’t lock or latches only with force. The keeper and lock body are misaligned, usually from sash sag. If the sash sagged because a balance failed, fixing the lock without fixing the balance means the new lock will strip too.
  • Drafts, rattling, or visible light around the edges. The weatherstripping has compressed or crumbled. This is the cheapest part on the list but the one that costs Los Angeles homeowners the most in cooling bills when it’s ignored through a full summer.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Ameristar windows and doors in the Los Angeles market, here’s what we quote day in and day out. These are installed prices, meaning the part, labor, and cleanup are all in the number.

  • Weatherstripping replacement: $470 to $1,180
  • Lock, keeper, or handle replacement: $295 to $825
  • Balance or spring replacement: $590 to $1,770
  • Roller replacement on a sliding door: $710 to $2,125
  • Window hardware overhaul (multiple parts): $1,180 to $2,950

What drives the range is part availability and access. A first-floor window with a clear path takes less time than a second-story unit reached by ladder. OEM Ameristar parts, when they’re still available, cost more than quality aftermarket equivalents, and we’ll walk you through that choice in plain language before any work begins. Every job comes with a written line-item quote, and if anything about the scope changes during the job, you get a written change order from Tom Barrett before we proceed. Our 90-Day Done Right Promise covers every repair we make.

We also stock parts and materials for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products for the other trades we handle across Los Angeles. One phone call covers a lot of ground.

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely check a few things before calling. Clean the track and inspect for visible debris. Confirm the label number on the frame. Take a photo of the broken hardware. Those three steps cost nothing and speed up the quote.

What we’d caution against is opening up a balance assembly or pulling a sliding door off its track without experience. Some window balances are under spring tension, and a sliding glass door panel is heavy enough to crush fingers or crack tile when it comes off the rail wrong. We’ve also watched homeowners order a part online that looked identical and the mounting holes were off by a sixteenth of an inch. That’s a wasted week and a wasted purchase. If the job is a simple handle replacement and you’re comfortable with a screwdriver, fine. For anything involving springs, rollers under load, or a door panel, call us at (877) 610-1318 and we’ll take care of it.
