Here’s the thing about ActiveYards cabinetry: it’s built on a modular platform, which means individual boxes, doors, drawer fronts, hinges, and glides are still available for most lines. The catch, and this is the checkable specific that matters, is that ActiveYards changed hinge bore spacing on several of its door styles around 2015. If your doors predate that, you need the older 42mm bore pattern, not the current 45mm. We keep both on the truck because guessing wrong means a door that never hangs right.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards cabinet lines are identified by door style first, series second, and finish code third. The door style name is stamped or stickered on the inside of the hinge-side stile on most boxes made after 2008. The series number, generally a two-digit code like 10, 20, or 30, tells you the box construction: particleboard core with melamine interior on the lower series, plywood box and soft-close hardware on the upper series. The finish code is what matters if you need a single matching door or drawer front, because ActiveYards finishes are batch-matched, and a door made six months apart from a different batch will show it in certain Los Angeles light.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: OEM ActiveYards hinges, glides, and boxes are produced to the original specs, but aftermarket equivalents from Blum and Grass carry the same load ratings and often ship faster. • Doors that droop and won’t stay aligned. This is almost always the hinge. ActiveYards hinges on pre-2015 cabinetry used a two-screw face plate with a plastic bushing that cracks in dry heat. The fix is a hinge swap, not a new door, and it takes about ten minutes per door.
• Drawers that bind halfway out or feel like they’re grinding on gravel. The glide rail has lost its bearing surface. Once that happens, the steel roller starts cutting into the rail itself, and the glide needs replacement, not lubrication. Pushing through the grind makes it worse and can tear out the drawer box.
• Door and drawer faces with a cloudy, streaky finish. That’s UV exposure plus cooking oils breaking down the topcoat. You can strip and refinish, but on ActiveYards thermofoil doors the film separates from the substrate and no amount of refinishing fixes a lifting edge. Replacement faces are the permanent fix.
• Cabinet boxes swelling at the bottom or separating at the corner joints. This is moisture from the Los Angeles wet season or a slow sink or dishwasher leak. Particleboard boxes absorb water and never come back. If the box is gone, we’re replacing the box, not just the door.
• Soft-close mechanisms that slam or don’t engage at all. The dampener cartridge is spent. On ActiveYards soft-close lines, the cartridge is replaceable without pulling the hinge or the drawer box, and it’s a $20 to $40 part depending on whether you have the integrated or add-on dampener.

What we’d caution against is custom-cutting replacement boxes or doors to fit an existing ActiveYards run, because a half-millimeter off on a stile or rail means a gap that collects grease and never looks right.
