Jerith Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you’ve got a Jerith kitchen element that’s failing, we stock and install Jerith-compatible remodeling components across Los Angeles, with a typical full kitchen remodel running $16,520 to $53,100 depending on scope. We carry the parts on our trucks for the most common Jerith line issues, and we can usually match what you have within a day or two of looking at it. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a drawer that suddenly won’t close square, a cabinet face that’s pulling loose from its frame, or a countertop seam that’s started separating after years of southern California dry heat.

Tom Barrett and our crew have been fixing and remodeling kitchens across Los Angeles for over 29 years, and we’ve seen just about every way a kitchen can start to fail. The good news is that most Jerith components are repairable or replaceable without starting over from scratch, and we’ll tell you straight which one makes sense before you spend a dime.

Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith manufactured kitchen lines across several series over the years, and the parts differ in ways that matter. The most common Los Angeles installations we see are from the mid-1990s through the early 2010s, and the cabinet frame construction changed between those generations. The earlier line used a 3/4-inch face-frame with dowel joinery, while later models switched to a thinner 5/8-inch frame with cam-lock assembly. That matters because a replacement hinge plate that fits the earlier frame won’t seat correctly on the later one, and you’ll feel the door sag within weeks if someone sells you the wrong plate.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners run into: Jerith used two different hinge patterns, and the pattern is stamped on the inside of the cabinet door, usually a two-letter code near the bottom corner. If your door says “JA” you need the older pattern; “JC” means the newer one. We match parts by that stamp, not by the door measurement, because the measurement alone won’t catch it. For countertops and backsplashes, Jerith didn’t manufacture those in-house, so what you’re really matching is the edge profile and thickness, and we carry aftermarket profiles that come within a sixteenth of an inch of the original.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: genuine Jerith cabinet parts are still available for most series, but the lead time from remaining distributors runs three to six weeks and pricing is all over the map. We stock quality aftermarket equivalents for hinge slides, drawer glides, and face frames that meet or exceed the original spec. For anything structural, like a failed cabinet box or a delaminating door panel, we’ll quote you both options in writing and let you decide. Barrett & Sons Construction is an independent Los Angeles service provider, not affiliated with Jerith, and we work with their parts alongside KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone component lines every week.

Signs Your Jerith Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Most of the Jerith kitchens we’re called to in Los Angeles show the same warning signs, and catching them early usually saves real money. Here’s what we see most often, and what’s actually going on behind each symptom.

  • Drawers that stick, drag, or fall off the track. The original nylon roller guides wear flat over 10 to 15 years of daily use, and once the ball bearings start spalling, the drawer will never ride smooth again. This is the most common Jerith failure in Los Angeles kitchens, and it’s almost always fixable with a glide replacement rather than new cabinetry.
  • Cabinet doors that sag or won’t stay closed. The hinge plates loosen from the frame over time because the cam-lock hardware in later Jerith models works loose with repeated opening and closing. A door that hangs half an inch low is the first sign; once you see it, the fix is a plate replacement and refastening, not a whole new cabinet.
  • Face frames separating from the cabinet box. This one’s structural. The original adhesive used in mid-90s Jerith builds breaks down in Los Angeles heat, especially in kitchens that catch afternoon sun through west-facing windows. If you see a visible gap between the frame and the box, call us before it widens enough to rack the whole cabinet run.
  • Countertop seams opening up at the joint. California’s dry air and temperature swings between summer and winter cause stone and quartz seams to expand and contract, and older Jerith installs used a thinner seam adhesive that cracks after a decade or two. A hairline crack at the seam isn’t an emergency, but water will find its way in, and that turns a cosmetic fix into a substrate repair fast.
  • Soft-close mechanisms that slam or don’t engage. If your Jerith has the soft-close drawer glides, the damping piston wears out in stages: first a slight click, then a full slam, then the drawer bounces back open. It’s a five-minute swap per drawer if you have the right glide in hand, and we keep them on the truck.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Full Jerith kitchen remodeling in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100, and that range covers everything from a complete cabinet and countertop replacement to a full reconfiguration with new layout, plumbing moves, and electric. If you’re looking at a smaller-scope fix like a cabinet installation alone, that runs $4,720 to $15,340; countertop installation lands between $2,360 and $7,670, and a backsplash replacement falls between $945 and $2,950 depending on material and square footage.

What drives the range is material choice, linear footage of cabinetry, whether we’re moving plumbing or keeping the sink where it is, and whether the existing cabinet boxes are worth keeping. We give you a line-item written quote before anything starts, and every allowance is listed in writing, because an allowance that isn’t on paper is a surprise waiting for a date. All our work carries the 90-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, Tom comes back and makes it right, one call. We also pull permits and get inspections signed on every eligible job in Los Angeles, because the permit inspector works for you, not for us. Additionally, we offer $40 off any repair over $200, a free second opinion on any written estimate, no trip charge inside the county, and a permanent 10% senior and veteran discount.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things a Los Angeles homeowner can safely check before calling anyone. Pull out a drawer and look at the glide: if you see cracked plastic or bare metal where the ball bearings used to sit, that’s a parts job, and matching the glide length and the drawer width is something we’ll do for you in minutes. Check for a stamp code on the inside of any sagging cabinet door, and write down the measurements, because that’ll tell us which hinge plate generation you have. Tightening a loose hinge screw is fine with a hand screwdriver. Do not reach for a power drill on Jerith cabinetry, because the cam-lock fittings strip out fast under torque, and once that happens the fix goes from plate replacement to face-frame repair.

Where DIY goes wrong is trying to replace a cabinet box, re-level a countertop, or match a failed door panel finish. If the substrate under your counters is swollen from water, or a face frame has pulled half an inch off the box, that’s structural work, and doing it wrong leads to racked cabinets and a countertop that cracks. Call us at (877) 610-1318 for a free estimate, and if a job turns out to be simple enough for you to handle, we’ll tell you that honestly. A live person answers our phone 24/7, and Tom lives about twenty minutes from most of our Los Angeles jobs, which means if something’s wrong, he’ll want to know about it.
