Pella Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Pella fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620, and unlike a national outfit, we’ll show up with the right Pella-compatible hardware already on the truck. Most owners find out their Pella fence has failed the hard way: a gate that drags after a heat wave, a post that’s gone soft at the soil line, or a latch that won’t catch after the ground shifted. We stock the common Pella fence components and know which aftermarket equivalents actually hold up in Los Angeles sun and adobe clay.

Barrett & Sons Construction is an independent, owner-operated contractor. We’re not affiliated with Pella, but we’ve installed and repaired their fence lines across Los Angeles for over two decades, and we know which parts fail first and which replacements are worth the money.

Which Pella Models This Applies To

Pella’s fence and gate hardware shows up most often on their aluminum and vinyl fence lines sold through Los Angeles dealers, including the Pella 350 Series and Pella Impervia fence panels when paired with matching gates. The compatibility gotcha most owners miss is the hinge spacing: Pella aluminum gates use a 4-inch hinge pattern on the 350 Series, but some vinyl panels use a 5-inch pattern, and if you grab the wrong hinge at a big-box store you’ll be drilling new holes into a panel that wasn’t built for it.

Identification is straightforward if you know where to look. The model label on Pella fence panels sits on the inside face of the end rail, usually near a corner, and lists the series and a manufacturing date. If the label is gone, measure the picket width and the rail channel depth. Pella vinyl fence pickets are 5-3/4 inches wide on the 350 Series, and the bottom rail channel is 7/8 inch deep. For OEM versus aftermarket, the OEM hardware is fine but overpriced; we typically install an aftermarket hinge and latch set rated for the same load, because the Pella-branded hardware is just a reboxed version of what we can source direct for about 40 percent less.

Signs Your Pella Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or won’t latch after rain. Los Angeles adobe clay expands when it gets wet, and the gate post shifts just enough to throw off the hinge alignment. You’ll see scrape marks on the concrete or a latch bolt that sits a half-inch low.
  • Post wobble at the soil line. This is the most common failure we see in Los Angeles, especially in the Valley where irrigation overspray keeps the soil damp year-round. The post was set in dry-pack concrete that cracked, or the footer wasn’t deep enough for the wind load.
  • Vinyl pickets pulling out of the bottom rail. Los Angeles afternoon sun heats dark-colored vinyl past 160 degrees on a July afternoon, and the thermal expansion works the pickets loose from the rail channel over three or four summers.
  • Latch hardware stiff or seized. A mix of coastal salt air near the westside and hard-water irrigation spray inland corrodes the internal spring and pin mechanism. It starts stiff, then locks solid.
  • Aluminum rails popping at the corner brackets. Pella aluminum rails use die-cast corner brackets, and those zinc castings fatigue faster in Los Angeles because the daily temperature swing causes repeat expansion stress. The bracket cracks, and the rail drops.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Installed Pella fence installation in Los Angeles runs $4,130 to $10,620, with most single-gate replacements landing between $1,200 and $3,400 depending on the post condition and hardware needs. The range is driven by three things: whether the posts need to be reset in concrete, how many linear feet of rail or panel need replacement, and whether you’re matching an existing Pella color that requires a factory-order part.

Scope Typical Los Angeles Installed Range
Gate post reset with new concrete footer $590-$1,180
Single gate replacement, Pella-compatible hardware $1,180-$3,400
Full fence panel replacement (per 6-ft section) $710-$1,770
Full Pella fence installation (average Los Angeles lot) $4,130-$10,620

Every line item is written out before work starts. You’ll get a written change order if anything shifts mid-job, and the 90-Day Done Right Promise covers the whole installation. That’s our guarantee, on paper: if it’s not right, Tom comes back.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the latch alignment yourself: open the gate halfway and look at the gap between the post and the gate frame. If the gap is wider at the top than the bottom, the post has moved. You can also check whether the post is soft at the ground line by pushing on it hard with both hands. What you shouldn’t do is try to reset a fence post without knowing where your gas, electric, and irrigation lines run. Los Angeles requires a dig alert before any excavation, and a cracked main line or buried electrical conduit turns a $200 post reset into a $4,000 repair.

If the post is solid and only the latch is stiff, that’s a thirty-minute swap with the right parts. If the post moves at all, call us at (877) 610-1318 and we’ll get it done right the first time, or we’ll come back and make it right.
