ViewLux Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If your ViewLux driveway or paver surface is showing cracks, sinking, or separating at the joints, we can match the original product and install a repair that blends with what you already have. Most ViewLux-compatible paver and driveway repairs in Los Angeles run between $295 and $21,240 depending on whether you’re sealing a small section or replacing the full surface. We stock common ViewLux-compatible pavers and edge restraints on our trucks, which means many Los Angeles jobs get done in a single visit.
Here’s the typical story. You noticed a low spot where water pools after rain, or a paver that’s shifted out of line near the driveway apron. Maybe the sand between joints has washed out and weeds are pushing through. These problems don’t fix themselves, and in Los Angeles soil that expands and contracts with our wet winters and dry summers, they get worse every season. The good news: most failures are isolated, and matching ViewLux pavers is usually straightforward when you know what to look for.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To
ViewLux manufactures paver and driveway systems in a few distinct lines, and the compatibility question is the first thing we check. The three most common series we see around Los Angeles are the ViewLux Permeable Paver line, the ViewLux Ashlar Stone (sometimes labeled as ViewLux Slate finish), and the ViewLux DriveGrid system for stabilized gravel or grass driveways. Each series uses different thickness specifications: permeable pavers typically run 80mm thick, while the Ashlar Stone line is often 60mm for pedestrian areas and 80mm for driveways.
Here’s the gotcha most owners don’t know: ViewLux changed the chamfer profile on their Ashlar line about six years ago. Older pavers have a sharper edge bevel, and the newer production runs have a slightly rounded profile. If you mix them on a visible driveway section, you’ll notice the difference in the joint lines when the sun hits them at an angle. That’s why we ask for a photo of the existing paver before we quote a repair, and why we measure rather than guess. For OEM versus aftermarket, we’re direct about this: ViewLux pavers are color-batched during manufacturing, and an off-batch aftermarket equivalent will show a shade difference within a year of UV exposure. For driveways where appearance matters, we recommend OEM or a carefully matched current-batch aftermarket option. For sub-surface work like base rock and edge restraints, quality aftermarket materials are fine and usually cheaper with no downside.
Signs Your ViewLux Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Pooling water after rain. This usually means the sand or aggregate base underneath has eroded or shifted, creating a low spot. In Los Angeles, the freeze-thaw cycle isn’t the issue, but our occasional heavy downpours will find every weak spot in the base.
- Cracks running across multiple pavers. A single cracked paver is often just impact damage, but a crack line that crosses several pavers in a row points to base failure below. That’s a structural issue, not a cosmetic one.
- Joint sand washing out or weeds coming through. This is the earliest warning sign. Joint sand acts as a spacer and stabilizer; when it’s gone, the pavers start to move individually and the edges chip against each other.
- Visible shifting or a sunken area near the driveway edge. Edge restraints failing is the most common cause we see in Los Angeles. Once the edge restraint cracks or pulls away, the whole field of pavers can migrate outward, opening up gaps.
- A spongy or soft spot when you walk on it. That’s the telltale sign of a void under the pavers. It often happens near downspouts or where a tree root has grown through the base. If you feel movement, don’t ignore it: a paving failure under a vehicle can turn into a popped tire or a damaged rim.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Los Angeles homeowners, a ViewLux paver or driveway repair falls into one of three ranges. Re-sealing a driveway or re-sanding paver joints runs $295 to $825. A targeted repair, which means pulling up a section, fixing the base, and reinstalling matched pavers, typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a driveway section. A full paver driveway replacement lands between $8,260 and $21,240 depending on square footage, paver series, and access.
Every quote we give is a written line-item price, and every change to that quote comes as a written change order before we touch anything. No surprises at the end. The work includes removal of the failed material, base repair or replacement as needed, reinstallation with new joint sand, and compaction. We back the labor with our 90-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right, call us and Tom Barrett comes back to make it right. Materials like ViewLux pavers are covered under their manufacturer warranty, and we’ll help you file that claim if it ever comes to it.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely do on your own. You cantop up joint sand with a polymeric sand product from any Los Angeles landscape supply yard. You can also pull a single loose paver and reset it in a bed of sand, as long as the base underneath is still firm. And you can clean the surface with a standard pressure washer on a low setting.
What we don’t recommend doing yourself is anything that involves the base layer. Once you’re digging out base rock, compacting aggregate, or dealing with a failed edge restraint, you’re into a job that gets expensive fast if it’s done wrong. A badly compacted base in Los Angeles soil will fail within a season and you’ll be paying twice. If you’re uncertain about what you’re looking at, call us at (877) 610-1318. We’ll help you figure out whether it’s a quick fix or a real repair, and there’s no charge for the conversation.
FAQs
With proper installation and occasional re-sanding, ViewLux pavers typically last 20 to 30 years in the Los Angeles climate. The pavers themselves hold up well to UV exposure; what fails first is almost always the base or the edge restraint, not the paver itself. Call (877) 610-1318 if you suspect your base is failing, and we’ll give you an honest assessment.
If the crack is isolated to one paver and the base is still sound, we can swap that single unit for a matched replacement, which is a quick and inexpensive fix. If multiple pavers are cracked in a line, the crack is telling you about a base problem that needs to be dug out and rebuilt. Either way, call us at (877) 610-1318 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
A single-paver swap or joint re-sanding job is usually done in an afternoon. A section repair with base work typically takes one to two days, and a full driveway replacement runs three to five days depending on size and access. We’ll give you a written schedule before we start.
We keep common ViewLux-compatible pavers, joint sand, and edge restraints on our trucks for most Los Angeles jobs, and we can order specific series matches within a few days if we don’t have the exact batch on hand. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products for the other trades we handle. Call (877) 610-1318 with a photo of your paver and we’ll confirm what we have.
If you’ve got a ViewLux driveway or paver surface that’s showing its age, call Barrett & Sons Construction at (877) 610-1318.
