Tamko Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have a Tamko roof in Los Angeles that’s leaking, lifting, or showing granule loss, we stock the parts to fix it and can usually get replacement materials matched to your line within a day or two. Installed Tamko roof repairs in Los Angeles typically run $470 to $2,125 depending on whether we’re replacing a section of shingles, flashing, or underlayment. Most owners discover a problem during the first heavy rain after a hot stretch, when the summer heat has done its quiet work on the seals and the water finally finds a way in.

We’re an independent contractor, not a Tamko dealer or affiliate. That means we don’t push one brand. We fix what’s on your roof, and around Los Angeles that’s a lot of Tamko Heritage and Tamko Titan XT shingles, plus their metal and flat-roof lines. You call us, we come look, and we tell you honestly whether it’s a repair or a replacement. Tom Barrett’s been doing this since 1998, and we still answer our own phone.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

We work on the full Tamko roofing line you’ll find across Los Angeles homes. The big two are Tamko Heritage, a laminated architectural shingle, and Tamko Titan XT, their heavier impact-rated line that a lot of LA homeowners chose for fire resistance in hillside communities. We also handle Tamko’s metal roofing profiles and their flat/low-slope products, including modified bitumen and TPO, which show up on mid-century homes and commercial-to-residential conversions around the Valley and South LA.

Identifying your exact Tamko product matters more than people think. The shingle color name and lot number are printed on the wrapper of every bundle, but if you don’t have a leftover bundle in the garage, we can match by measuring the exposure, counting the shingle thickness, and pulling a sample from an unweathered spot like under a vent or chimney flashing. One compatibility gotcha: Tamko changed the color formulation on some Heritage colors around 2015, so a “Weathered Wood” bundle from 2012 won’t blend perfectly with a 2024 “Weathered Wood” patch. We keep that in mind when we plan repairs so you don’t end up with a visible patch that looks like a band-aid on the roof. For older Tamko lines that are discontinued, we match to the closest current equivalent and tell you before we install it, not after.

Signs Your Tamko Roofing Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutters or at the downspout outlets. Tamko shingles shed surface granules as the asphalt surface wears. If you see a steady stream of granules collecting after rains, that’s the UV in Los Angeles breaking down the shingle’s protective layer. Once the granule layer thins, the asphalt beneath bakes and curls.
  • Curling or cupping shingle edges on south-facing slopes. Los Angeles sun is hardest on the south and west exposures. Tamko shingles there age faster than the north side of the same roof. When edges lift more than about a quarter inch, wind gets under them and tears them off in Santa Ana conditions.
  • Blisters or small bubbles on the shingle surface. Moisture trapped under the shingle expands in LA’s heat and pushes the asphalt up. This is common on Tamko roofs over poorly ventilated attics in older Valley homes. Blisters eventually pop and expose the mat underneath.
  • Leaks around flashing, not through the field of shingles. Most “roof leaks” on Tamko roofs aren’t actually shingle failures. They’re at the pipes, skylights, chimneys, and valley intersections where flashing was poorly sealed or has pulled away. In the hills around Los Angeles, we see this worsen after every big wind event.
  • Dark streaks or moss on shaded slopes. In canyons and under tree canopies, Tamko shingles hold moisture longer. Moss lifts the shingle edges away from the deck, which lets wind and water underneath. This is more common in Los Feliz, Laurel Canyon, and similar neighborhoods than people expect.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Tamko roof repair in Los Angeles runs $470 to $2,125 for most jobs. A small flashing repair or a few shingle replacements lands at the low end. Replacing a larger shingle field, repairing underlayment, or rebuilding a valley intersection pushes toward the top of that range and sometimes beyond if decking has rotted underneath. We write every estimate as a fixed scope with line items, so you see the cost of materials, labor hours, and any decking replacement before work starts.

What drives the price: how high and steep the roof is (steep means more safety equipment and slower work), how much of the underlayment needs to come up, and whether we’re matching discontinued Tamko colors that require ordering from a distributor in LA or the Valley rather than pulling from our truck stock. Our work comes with the 90-Day Done Right Promise written on the contract: if something isn’t right, one call brings us back. No charge, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check from the ground or from a ladder that doesn’t require walking the roof: granule buildup in gutters, visible curling on the south slope, missing shingles after a wind event, damp spots in the attic showing daylight through the deck. Checking costs you nothing and gives you information.

Walking a roof is where DIY stops for us. Tamko shingles in Los Angeles summers get slick, and a fall from a second-story eave changes lives. We also don’t recommend any homeowner pull a roof vent or boot and try to re-seal it, because a poorly seated flashing is a guaranteed future leak. If you’ve confirmed damage, or if you just suspect something and want a trained eye, call (877) 610-1318. We’ll come look, give you a straight answer, and leave you a written estimate you can hold us to.
