IKO Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you’ve got an IKO window or door in Los Angeles that’s not closing right, leaking air, or showing a failed seal, we stock the replacement parts and install them for $470-$2,125 depending on what’s worn out. Most IKO hardware and weatherstripping issues we fix same-week, and we carry the common failure points on the truck when we roll to your neighborhood. Here’s the honest picture: an IKO unit rarely fails all at once. It’s usually a single component – a worn balance shoe, a cracked hinge, a dried-out gasket strip – and once that piece goes, the whole unit stops doing its job.

We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not affiliated with IKO. That means we match parts by measurement and series spec, not by brand loyalty. If the IKO factory part makes sense, we order it. If a quality aftermarket equivalent fits better or costs less, we tell you that too and let you decide with numbers on paper.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s residential lines – the StormShield, ThermalCore, and the older Legacy series – share a lot of internal hardware, but not everything crosses over. The balance shoe on a 2014 ThermalCore double-hung won’t fit a 2019 StormShield of the same rough opening. That’s a gotcha we see in Los Angeles all the time: homeowners buy a part online by window height alone and end up with a sash that won’t stay up.

Here’s how to identify what you actually have. The IKO glass etch – that little logo in the corner of the pane – has a date code and series stamp. Write down both. Then measure the visible glass, not the frame. We match parts by the IKO series code first, then your exact sash dimensions. If the label’s worn off, we can still match by profile shape and hardware retainer clip pattern, but it’s faster if the etch is legible.

For IKO doors, the hinge and roller assemblies on the sliding patio units are standardized by weight rating. A 210-pound door panel needs a heavier roller than a 160-pound interior slider, and mixing those up is how you get a door that jumps the track. OEM IKO rollers are fine. The aftermarket stainless versions from the commercial supply houses in Vernon actually hold up better in Los Angeles’s grit and dust. We’ll quote both and let you choose.

Signs Your IKO Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Fog or haze between the panes that won’t wipe off. Your IGU (insulated glass unit) seal has failed. This is the single most common IKO failure we see in Los Angeles, and it’s driven by our heat-cycling: cool nights, hot days, year after year. The pane doesn’t get better, and the window’s insulating ability is already gone.
  • Sash drops when you raise it, or you need two hands to lift it. The balance shoe or spring cassette has broken. This is a wear part and it’s the second-most common call we get. If you keep yanking on it, you’ll crack the corner of the sash frame too.
  • Cold air coming through the edges even when the window’s closed. The weatherstripping or gasket has dried out and compressed. LA sun bakes these strips brittle. The window frame is probably fine – it’s the seal that’s shot.
  • The window or door sticks, scrapes, or won’t line up with the latch. On IKO sliders, this is usually a bad roller or a clogged track. On hinged doors, it’s sag from worn hinge pins. Don’t force it. Forcing a misaligned IKO door is how the latch gears strip, and that’s a more expensive fix than the hinge was.
  • Hand crank on a casement window turns but the sash barely moves. The crank gear or the hinge arm has stripped. These are specific to IKO’s casement hardware and they don’t interchange with Andersen or Marvin parts. We match by series year.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles, IKO window and door part replacement typically runs $470-$2,125 installed depending on the component. Here’s what drives the range:

  • Glass unit replacement (failed seal): $945-$2,950 for an IKO IGU, including argon refill, seal, and re-set in the existing frame. Price changes based on glass size and whether it’s clear or low-E coated
  • Balance shoe or spring cassette replacement: $470-$1,180 including parts and the labor to pull and re-set the sash
  • Weatherstripping and gasket replacement: $295-$825 for a full perimeter re-seal on a typical IKO window or door
  • Roller or hinge replacement (sliding doors): $470-$1,850 depending on panel weight and whether the track needs re-seating

Every quote is a written line item with the part number, the labor, and the total. No allowance, no “oh that wasn’t included” at the end. The work is backed by our 90-Day Done Right Promise, and if a part fails inside that window, Tom comes back and fixes it. One call.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing IKO weatherstripping is genuinely doable if your fingers are nimble and you buy the right profile. Cleaning a track is free and sometimes that’s all a slider needs. Those are the honest DIY wins. But pulling an IKO sash to change a balance shoe or swapping an insulated glass unit is where we’ve seen Los Angeles homeowners catch real problems. The balance shoe holds tension, and when it lets go, the sash drops. That can mean broken glass, a busted window sill, or worse if you’re standing in the wrong spot. Glass units are heavy, they break clean, and IKO frames aren’t forgiving when you flex them the wrong way.

If you’ve got a failed seal, a dropped sash, or a door that’s grinding, call (877) 610-1318. We’ll match the part, quote the fix, and do it right the first time, or we’ll come back and make it right.
