CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

CertainTeed driveway and paver work in Los Angeles typically runs $8,260 to $21,240 installed, depending on footage, base condition, and which CertainTeed product line you’re matching. We stock the most common CertainTeed pavers and edging on our trucks, so most repairs and replacements start the same week you call. What usually brings people to this page: a cracked paver, a sinking section near the driveway apron, faded color that won’t come back, or a mismatched patch job from a previous contractor that’s now visibly failing. You know your driveway looked great when it went in. It should keep looking that way.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

The two CertainTeed paver lines we see most often around Los Angeles homes are Monroe and Hollandstone. Monroe pavers run a modular 3-piece system with a larger face, so they lay faster and give a cleaner look on wide driveways. Hollandstone is the rectangular workhorse, available in multiple thicknesses, and it’s what we usually match when a homeowner has an older section that needs blending.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha: CertainTeed changed their color-batch chemistry a few years back, so a “Charcoal” paver bought today is not a dead match for a “Charcoal” paver installed in 2015. Sun fade does the rest. If you’re patching an existing driveway, we pull a sample, match against current stock, and tell you up front whether we can get a 95% match or whether you’re better off redoing the whole section. We’d rather set the expectation than install something that looks like a rooftop repair from the street.

As for OEM versus aftermarket: for CertainTeed specifically, we always use OEM pavers and edging. The tolerances are tight enough that aftermarket equivalents create lippage, meaning one paver sits proud of its neighbor and catches your shoe. Not worth the “savings” when we’re the ones who have to stand behind it for 90 days.

Signs Your CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sunken paver sections near the garage lip or street apron. Almost always base failure. In Los Angeles, we deal with two base killers: expansive clay soil that swells and shrinks through our wet-dry cycles, and tree roots from mature ficus and liquidambar that push upward. A paver only performs as well as what’s under it.
  • Cracks running across multiple pavers in a line. This is usually a subgrade void, not paver failure. Water found a weak spot, washed out the bedding sand, and the pavers cracked under tire load. If you see a straight-line crack, the problem is below, not the paver itself.
  • Fading that won’t come back with cleaning. CertainTeed pavers use integral color, but UV exposure in Los Angeles is relentless. A paver that’s gone chalky white has lost its surface binder. Sealing can slow this at the start, but once it’s powdery, replacement is the honest fix.
  • Edging that’s pulling away from the driveway border. The plastic or aluminum edging strip gets shoved outward by freeze-thaw, root pressure, or repeated tire edge strikes. Once the edge lets go, the pavers start drifting, and the whole border unzips. We fix this by pulling the border, resetting the edge restraint, and re-compacting.
  • Weed growth between pavers that returns within a month of cleaning. That’s a sign the joint sand has failed. Polymeric sand bonds the joints, but once it cracks, the gaps become seed beds. We pull the old sand, re-sweep with fresh polymeric, and the weeds stop having a place to call home.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full CertainTeed paver driveway in Los Angeles, plan on $8,260 to $21,240 installed. That covers demolition of the old surface, base excavation and compaction, new bedding sand, the CertainTeed pavers themselves, edge restraint, polymeric joint sand, and final compaction. Your specific number moves with square footage, whether we hit clay or caliche during excavation, and whether your current base is worth salvaging. Sectional repairs, like a 200-square-foot sinking area near the street, typically run much less than the full range above and we scope those in writing before any work starts.

Every quote we give includes line-item breakdowns for parts and labor, not one round number we hope you’ll trust. Change orders come in writing before the work, never as a surprise at the end. And the whole job is backed by our 90-Day Done Right Promise. If a paver settles or a joint fails within 90 days, Tom Barrett comes back and makes it right, one call.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check on your own. Walk the driveway and mark any paver that rocks underfoot. Note whether water pools anywhere after rain. Check the edges for gaps where the border paver meets grass. Those notes help us quote faster when you call.

What we don’t recommend: pulling pavers yourself to inspect the base, re-sanding joints without a plate compactor, or resetting a big section by eye. Pavers are not dangerous like garage door springs or a hot electrical panel, but the base work is unforgiving. A driveway that’s not compacted properly will settle within a season, and you’ll pay twice. For that reason, this is one place where we say: let us do the digging. Call (877) 610-1318 and we’ll come out, look at what you’ve got, and tell you straight whether it’s a patch or a full redo.
