Grohe Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We carry and install Grohe-compatible driveway and paver drain sets, floor gullies, and clean-out covers across Los Angeles, with most swap-outs running $295 to $825 installed depending on the drain body and surrounding substrate. If your Grohe drain grate is cracked, sun-faded, or sitting proud of the pavers after the ground shifted, that’s the usual story we hear from homeowners in Sherman Oaks, Studio City, and the South Bay. We’ll match your existing Grohe model, set the new drain flush with the paver surface, and have it done without tearing up more than the few inches around the existing collar.

The honest picture: most Los Angeles driveways fail around the drain long before the pavers themselves give out. Water pools, pavers sink, and what started as a wobbly grate becomes a tripping hazard or a back-up into the planter. Barrett & Sons Construction is an independent installer, not affiliated with Grohe, so our recommendation is whatever fits your existing drain body correctly, whether that’s a genuine Grohe replacement or a name-brand equivalent that matches the spec.

Which Grohe Models This Applies To

Grohe makes a few families of driveway and terrace drains that show up regularly in Los Angeles hardscape work. The main lines we see are the Grohe CleverDrain and Grohe Drive & Walk series, plus the earlier RainDrain bodies that a lot of mid-2000s Southland remodels used. The gotcha is the grate-to-body fit: a CleverDrain grate will not seat into a RainDrain collar, even when the visible dimensions look close. If you can’t find the model stamp on the underside of the grate, measure the flange opening, not the visible surface, and call us with that number. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a match before anyone drives out.

The OEM-versus-aftermarket call matters less for Grohe drains than for mechanical fixtures. The grates are load-rated stainless or galvanized steel, and several reputable foundries produce equivalents that meet the same EN 124 load class. For a residential driveway in Los Angeles, a Class B (125 kN) rating is the practical floor, and we won’t install anything below that, OEM or otherwise. We keep the common Grohe grate sizes in the truck: 4-inch, 6-inch, and the wider 8-inch terrace bodies. If yours falls outside that range, we order it and you’ll have it in about a week.

Signs Your Grohe Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • The grate rocks when you step on it. This usually means the mortar bed under the collar has crumbled or the body has shifted in the soil. It’s not just annoying, it’s how the drain starts taking on water from the sides and undermining the surrounding pavers.
  • Water pools around the drain instead of flowing into it. Los Angeles clay soil expands and contracts with rain, and a drain body that’s pitched wrong or has settled will leave a puddle that never used to be there. The fix is resetting the body, not just slapping a new grate on top.
  • The grate is rusting at the welds or edges. Even stainless doesn’t love years of Los Angeles hard water, chlorine from pool backwash, and salt air if you’re within a few miles of the coast. Once the welds start going, replacement is cheaper than chasing each crack with a repair.
  • You can see a gap between the grate and the surrounding pavers. That gap is where sand, silt, and roots get in. Left alone, the pavers around the drain start to sink and the whole assembly cocks to one side.
  • There’s a sewer smell near the driveway after rain. A broken drain body or failed trap lets gas come back up. This one’s worth getting looked at sooner rather than later, because it often means the body itself cracked, not just the grate.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the straight pricing for Grohe-style driveway drain replacement in Los Angeles:

Work Scope Typical Installed Range
Grate-only replacement (matching existing body) $295-$825
Drain body and grate replacement, paver reset $590-$1,650
Full driveway drain replacement with new pavers around the collar $1,180-$2,950

What drives the spread: whether the body needs to come out, whether the pavers around the collar are salvageable, and whether we’re matching an odd-size Grohe grate that has to be ordered. Every quote you get from us is a written line item, parts and labor separated, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. If the price changes during the job, you get a written change order before we go further, never a surprise at the end. The work carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise, and Tom Barrett’s name is on the invoice, not a call center’s.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself before you spend a dime. Is the grate loose? Is there standing water after rain? Does the surrounding paver area feel soft underfoot? Those observations help, and we’ll take them over the phone.

What we don’t recommend is pulling the grate and attempting a body reset yourself. Once the body’s out, you’re dealing with a drainage pipe that’s now open, and if the slope isn’t right when it goes back in, you’ve made the problem worse in a way that won’t show itself until the next rain. For a driveway drain, the labor is modest compared to the headache of a failed repair. Give us a call at (877) 610-1318, describe what you’re seeing, and we’ll tell you whether it’s worth a service call before you touch anything.
