Cambria Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If your Cambria countertop is cracked, chipped, delaminating at a seam, or a sink cutout has failed, the fix usually lands somewhere between a targeted repair and a full countertop replacement. Across Los Angeles, we typically see Cambria-specific kitchen remodel work run from $16,520 to $53,100 when countertops, cabinets, and backsplash all need attention, though a standalone countertop replacement often lands between $2,360 and $7,670 installed. The telltale sign is rarely subtle: a hairline crack radiating from a cooktop corner, a dull gray seam where two slabs now catch light differently, or water staining along an undermount sink rim that wasn’t there a year ago.

Cambria is quartz, and quartz doesn’t fail quietly. When it goes, it’s usually because the substrate underneath shifted, the original installer over-torqued a seam, or years of Los Angeles heat cycling finally exposed a weak point near a heat source. The good news: we match the failed section, rebuild the substrate, and re-set the seam so the repair disappears into the pattern.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria runs over 200 designs, but the compatibility questions that matter most for a kitchen remodel are about slab series, edge profiles, and what’s under the stone. The most common lines we see in Los Angeles kitchens are the Marble, Quartz, and Natural collections. Within those families, the countertop code is laser-etched on the underside of the slab, and it matters because Cambria retire designs routinely. If your exact design is discontinued, we’ll need to match against current-production slabs or pull from Cambria’s archived inventory, which doesn’t always exist.

Here’s the gotcha most homeowners run into: Cambria slabs are jumbo format, 132 inches by 65.5 inches, and fabricated in 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm thicknesses. If your original installer used 2 cm with a built-up edge and you want a true full-bullnose profile, you’re looking at 3 cm, and that changes the cabinet height math. We’ve seen more than one kitchen where a rushed replacement dropped the countertop height by a quarter inch and suddenly the dishwasher no longer slid out. We measure before we order, every time.

Cambria doesn’t license third-party fabricators, but replacement work is exactly that: replacement. We source Cambria slabs through certified Los Angeles-area distributors and fabricate locally. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Cambria, which means we answer to you, not to a brand rep.

Signs Your Cambria Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks radiating from a cooktop corner or sink cutout. That’s almost always substrate movement or an over-tightened seam clamp. Cambria is non-porous, but it still flexes, and if the plywood deck underneath swelled from a slow plumbing drip, the stone works against it until something gives.
  • A seam that catches light differently than it did at install. Cambria seams are filled with a color-matched adhesive. Once that adhesive oxidizes under UV or heat, it darkens or yellows, and no amount of polishing fixes it. The seam must be re-routed and re-filled.
  • Chipped edges, especially on overhangs and island corners. Quartz is hard but not indestructible. A corner impact from a cast-iron skillet or a dropped stockpot will chip it. If the chip exposes the interior aggregate, it can’t be buffed out and will need a profile re-cut or a corner replacement.
  • Dull gray patches that won’t polish out. This is usually etching, but Cambria is supposed to resist etching. What we actually see in Los Angeles kitchens is a secondary issue: years of hard water from the city supply leaving mineral film that builds into a haze, especially around the sink and any prep zone near the stove.
  • Water staining under an undermount sink rim. If the original installer used the wrong adhesive or didn’t let the silicone set before hanging the sink, water wicks into the joint. Over time that joint blackens. The sink needs to come off, the rim re-prepped, and the stone re-set.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A Cambria countertop replacement in Los Angeles runs $2,360 to $7,670 installed, depending on square footage, edge profile, slab availability, and whether we’re also rebuilding the substrate. A full kitchen remodel with cabinets, counters, and backsplash lands between $16,520 and $53,100. What moves the needle most is slab size and seam count. A standard L-shaped kitchen with one seam sits at the low end. A large island with a waterfall edge and a built-up cooktop cutout sits at the high end.

Every quote from us is line-itemed, and that matters because the price on paper is the price you pay. If the slab cost moves, you get a written change order before we order it. No allowance games. The work itself carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, Tom Barrett comes back and makes it right, one call. We also pull permits on every eligible job, because too many Los Angeles homeowners have been told permits are optional and found out otherwise at resale.

DIY or Call Us?

Cambria is quartz, not laminate. You can’t sand a seam, you can’t epoxy a crack in a way that will hold under thermal load, and you can’t match a color without the slab’s lot number and a trained eye. What you can safely check: whether the failure is surface-level (run a fingernail over it, if it catches, it’s physical, not cosmetic), whether the cabinets underneath are dry, and whether the countertop still sits level with a straightedge.

What goes wrong when someone tries to fix it themselves: they use a hardware-store two-part epoxy that yellows within two months, they over-clamp the crack and make it longer, or they dislodge the undermount sink seal and create a slow leak they don’t see until the cabinet floor rots through. That’s a $3,000 mistake on a $250 repair. Cambria is expensive because the stone is consistent, not because it’s forgiving. If the crack is longer than two inches or the seam is separating, call us at (877) 610-1318. We’ll come out and tell you straight whether it’s a repair or a replacement, and what each one costs.

How Long Does a Cambria Countertop Last in Los Angeles?

A properly installed Cambria countertop lasts 25 to 30 years, and in a dry Los Angeles climate without freeze-thaw cycles, we see them go longer than that. The things that shorten it are direct heat from a hot pan set on the stone, a substrate that was never properly sealed against moisture, and seams that were clamped too tight at install. Those first two we see often enough that they’re the first place we look.
