Torquay and other light series hold up better, but dark colors need deliberate expansion gaps. We build them in from day one.
• Seams pulling apart on Ontario Ranch slab islands. This is our most common Cambria call in 91761. The pads were cut-and-filled from old vineyard and dairy land, and differential settlement shows up within two or three years. Quartz is stiff – it transfers that ground movement into cracked seams instead of flexing. We’ll get into this more below because it’s the single biggest Ontario-specific Cambria failure we see.
• Epoxy seams yellowing in Ontario’s UV. White and light series like Torquay show yellowing faster out here than they do on the coast. Ontario gets more direct sun and hotter surface temperatures, and cheap polyester adhesives break down visibly. We use manufacturer-matched adhesives and colorant kits rated for this kind of exposure.
• Poor slab support on kitchen islands. Some installers set a Cambria island on a basic cabinet base with no plywood buildup and no steel reinforcement. In a city where floors move – especially on the fill lots south of the 60 – that’s a seam separation waiting to happen. We spec our own steel brackets and plywood buildup because Cambria doesn’t supply them, and that structural layer is what keeps the quartz from cracking.
